08/16/10 – The mayor of Santiago, Nuevo Leon went missing Sunday night following the conclusion of a cultural event in the city at around 10:30pm local time. Edelmiro Cavazos Leal failed to show up Monday morning at his workplace and was reported as missing when his colleagues were unable to establish contact with him.
It is presumed that Cavazos Leal was kidnapped by an armed group late Sunday night, though no official statements have been released by investigators. A source close to the mayor has stated that the even has prompted all government officials in Santiago to hold an emergency meeting in city hall without any extra security.
