Violence leaves 11 dead in Chihuahua

According to El Economista, local authorities reported an occurrence of violence linked to organized crime, including a quadruple homicide leaving 11 dead in Chihuahua during Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. 10 of the executions occurred in and around Ciudad Juarez, a locality that is considered to be the most violent in Mexico with more than 1,800 reported killings so far in 2009, despite the presence of 8,500 military soldiers.

The Chihuahua Attorney Justice reported that in the town of Guadalupe, 50km from Ciudad Juarez, 4 men who were out at night selling milk were shot and killed by armed men. Also, in a residential zone in Ciudad Juarez, a woman was shot and killed by unknown suspects driving by in a car. In addition, 5 others were killed during that night in separate events, including a 15 year old boy who was shot and killed at a bar. Yet, another execution was reported in the town of Camargo, according to the deputy.

Though the government sent out nearly 50,000 soldiers to different parts of the country in order to confront the cartels in December of 2006, some 14,000 people have been executed since then.
