Commando robs the armory of the Secretariat of Public Security of Chihuahua

10/03/10 – Last Monday, at around 02:30 hours, a commando robbed the armory of the Secretariat of Public Security of Chihuahua (Secretaría de Seguridad Pública Estatal – SSP) taking with them 43 AR-15 rifles and 16 guns, without anyone noticing them. According to the secretary of state security, Gustavo Zabre, the robbers did not use violence to raid the instillation for weapons because the guards opened one of the doors for them thinking they were agents. The robbers were dressed in official uniforms and entered the installations in a white Dodge Ram, like the ones used by the State Police force.

He also noted that the Public Security Complex (Complejo de Seguridad Pública), which houses the State School of Public Security (Escuela Estatal de Seguridad Pública), the Attorney General forensic laboratories, the morgue, and the State Police Command Center (Centro de Mando de la Policía Estatal), was being guarded by four private security guards who were not armed. At first it was reported that eight to twenty individuals, who were wearing masks, entered the facility violently and forced the security guards to give them access to the guns; this was later denied.
