An explosive was found on an international bridge between Ciudad Juárez and El Paso

An international bridge between Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua and El Paso, Texas was closed for three hours Tuesday morning. An explosive was found on the bridge known as Puente Lerdo. The bridge and roads leading to the bridge were closed immediately. Military and local police agents blocked off the routes and re-directed traffic.

Border Patrol agents from the United States and México worked together to detonate the explosive. According to witnesses, the explosion was small and caused no significant damage. The type of explosive has not been confirmed. A similar event occurred on July 31 when a criminal group threw an explosive against another international bridge that connected the city of Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas to the United States. A car bomb was detonated in Ciudad Juárez on July 15 as well.
