02/28/11— Victor Manuel Torres Garcia or Edgar Mauricio Barrera Corrales “El Papirrín” identified as a leader of La Resistencia with ties to the Beltran Leyva cartel was arrested in Michoacan by the Secretary of Public Security today.

La Resistencia was formed after many of the head leaders of the Beltran Leyva cartel were arrested and detained, including the Beltran Leyva brothers. It is made up of integral players from cartels including La Familia Michoacana, The Gulf Cartel, and the Millennium Cartel, with operations in Jalisco, Mexico State, Michoacan, and the Federal District. Facundo Rosas, General Commissioner of the Federal Police said, “we have identified at least three of the heads of the group, the complete structure isn’t defined because the organization is in a process of reorganization.” Intelligence reports indicate that El Papirrín initially worked under the Beltran Leyva cartel but then began to work under the control of Oscar Orlando Nava Valencia, alias “El Lobo,” until Valencia was detained in 2009.

El Papirrín was arrested with Juan Antonio González González and María del Sol Rojo González. At the moment of the detention the officers also found an AK-47 rifle, 2 pistols, and some drugs. They will be handed over to the Agent of the Pubic Ministry who will deal with them.
