08/10/10 – A group of armed men attacked a State Government Social Reintegration (Subsecretaría de Reinserción Social del Gobierno del estado) convoy with inmates and guards from the Jojutla prison. The convoy was on their way to official proceedings at the Atlacholoaya State Center for Social Rehabilitation (Centro Estatal de Readaptación Social de Atlacholoaya), in the municipality of Xochitepec when three were killed and one injured in the attack. The State Secretariat of Public Security (Secretaría de Seguridad Pública del Estado de Morales) reported that the attack occurred around 10:19 hours while on the federal highway Xochitepec- Jojutla. The aggressors were traveling in two Chevrolet vehicles when they fired at the convoy with high-powered R-15 weapons.
Prison guards Jorge Zúñiga Trejo and Jorge Galindo Rodríguez were killed, while a third guard, Feliciano Sánchez Lagunas, was taken to the Mexican Institute Social Security Hospital of Zacatepec (Hospital del Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social de Zacatepec). Lagunas is in critical condition. Also killed was inmate Mario Alberto Chávez Traconi, known as the “king of fraud” (rey del fraude). Traconi was carrying out a twenty-six year sentence for the crimes of robbery and fraud.
