Two police officers are ambushed and killed close to a military zone in Cuernavaca

Around 9:00am local time, two policemen were shot and killed in an ambush that occurred at the main entrance, known as Paloma de Paz, in the city of Cuernavaca, Morelos. The location of the shooting was only about a hundred meters away from the nearest military zone. According to eyewitnesses, two vehicles intercepted the patrol truck in which the two officers were inside.

Early reports state that the two officers, who were a part of the Secretary of Citizen Protection and Assistance (de la Secretaría de Protección y Auxilio Ciudadano), were shot over one hundred times. They were on their way back from pumping gas when they were ambushed. The executioners utilized AK-47 and AR-15 rifles as well as handguns. The names of the police officers are Elías Rea Avilés and Martín Diego Navarro.
