Two Criminals Shot to Death in Veracruz

02/07/11 – A violent encounter between federal police officers and organized crime members resulted in the death of two criminals who were shot to death near a port in Veracruz.  The chase, which according to witnesses occurred Monday morning just after midnight, ended up in a violent confrontation when a white van failed to stop after federal police officers had told it to do so.  The white van opened fire and decided to flee by driving down Manuel Ávila Camacho Boulevard.  Federal police chased after the van and after driving down a few blocks eventually surrounded it.  In addition to the two deaths, four police officers were also left wounded.

In an official statement, the federal Secretariat of Public Security stated that the coordinated efforts to uphold the security of the port will continue to be maintained by combating crime.  He also reiterated the position of the Government of Veracruz, which states that it will  not make room for crime nor impunity.
