Three presumed members of the Arellano Felix cartel organization were captured by Mexican Army elements in Rosarito, Baja California, with various high powered weapons in their possession. The detainees were arrested after authorities followed up on an anonymous phone call by a citizen who told authorities that there were armed men in the neighborhood of Lomas near the streets of Miguel Hidalgo and Costilla.
The Secretariat of National Defense (La Secretaría de la Defensa Nacional) reported that the individuals captured claimed to be commanded by ex-municipal police Officer Mario Alberto Herrera Sánchez, who was responsible for monitoring operations for the Tijuana cartel in Rosarito.
Detained are twenty-year-old Juan Francisco Sánchez Niebla “Paquillo”; twenty -four-year-old Víctor Hugo Angulo Melesio, both originally from Sinaloa, and Lucio García Flores “El Negro” from Guadalajara.
The Mexican army seized four long weapons,one short, two 5.7 x 28 calibers, a 9 x 19 caliber, and another .22, in addition to 983 cartridges and 27 chargers for different calibers. In their possession was a 2003 GMC Envoy.
