On January 3rd of this year his sister, Josefina Reyes Salazar, was executed by armed individuals who attempted to kidnap her near a barbecue stand located on Juárez Porvenir highway in the community of Loma Blanca. She had led a movement against repression and human rights violations focused on the Mexican Army and Federal Police. According to the online news source La Jornada, she took part in social activism in the agricultural area of the valley of Juárez and gained notoriety by carrying out a hunger strike outside of the Attorney General’s Office (Procuraduría General de la República – PGR) demanding that Miguel Ángel Reyes be located – he had been “picked up” my military personnel on August 21, 2008 and freed one month later. She had been arrested on several occasions for protesting and one of her sons, Julio César, was murdered in the valley of Juárez.
