The body of an ex-candidate for local deputy was found outside a tire shop in Sinaloa

08/04/10 – The body of an ex-candidate for local deputy in San Ignacio, Sinaloa was found outside a tire shop early Wednesday morning. Investigators reported that the body of Jose Antonio Aguirre Bastidas had a rope tied around his neck and tape covering his face when he was found. Bastidas appeared to have been strangled to death. There were signs indicating that he was beaten severely before being killed, but no gunshot wounds were apparent. He had reportedly been kidnapped this past Sunday along with two other people. A plastic bag containing his wallet and personal belongings was placed next to the body.

Antonio Bastidas ran for local deputy for the Democratic Revolution Party (Partido de la Revolución Democrática – PRD) during the previous election and had served for over a year in the local government as a legal counsel. He was 42 years old.
