Texas Police Officers Attacked by Narco-traffickers

06/10/11 – On Thursday June 9, narco-traffickers began firing at U.S. agents in Texas from the Mexico side of the border.  According to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), the incident, which occurred in the border county of Hidalgo, began when U.S. officials attempted to confiscate a shipment of drugs.  The suspected narco-traffickers immediately began firing, turning the confrontation into a heavy shoot out.  The Associated Press reported that the U.S. used an elite team of Texas Rangers Recon agents in the attempted drug seizure.

The incident left at least 3 narco-traffickers wounded, although no information has been released indicating  whether or not any U.S. agents were hurt.  It is also not known if any arrests were made.  DPS spokesperson Tela Mange stated that such information could not be released due to security reasons. DPS also reported that the narco-traffickers abandoned the shipment of drugs at the scene.  Mexican officials were notified immediately about the incident.
