Social leader Ausencio Eng Miranda is murdered hours after staging a protest

Social leader Ausencio Eng Miranda was murdered in Tampico, Tamaulipas. Eng Miranda, leader of the National Movement Villista (Movimiento Nacional Villista), was placed in the back of a Jeep Grand Cherokee which had been parked in front of the offices of the organization he led.

An anonymous tip Monday evening led the local police to the street where the SUV had been parked. The body showed signs of torture; his legs had been dislocated so that the murderers could fit the body in the space provided. Eng Miranda had been shot in the back of the head.

Earlier that day at around 1:00pm local time, Eng Miranda and other members of the organization staged a protest against COMAPA Altamira for imposing illegal charges to families that had been relocated by the company. Two hours later, Eng Miranda was reported missing.
