Nine individuals accused of killing two agents are detained in Nayarit; six others in Huixquilican

The Federal Police (Policía Federal – PF) detained nine people in the state Nayarit accused of killing two agents as well as having close ties to the Sinaloa Cartel. Six other individuals in Huixquilican, west of Mexico D.F., were taken into custody for the kidnappings of two people and belonging to the Beltrán Leyva cartel.

An anonymous tip led the Federal Police to the nine gunmen in Nayarit. As the agents approached their known location the gunmen shot at the agents, killing two. They were detained after further operations. Among the arrested is Jorge Antonio “el Guacho” Arias Flores who was the leader of the group that was dedicated to performing kidnappings. He is also believed to take direct orders from Joaquín Guzmán “el Chapo” Loera, head of the Sinaloa Cartel.

When captured, the Federal Police also seized walkie-talkies, 29 cell phones, assault rifles, grenades, three vehicles, and marijuana.

The six individuals captured in Huixquilican were a part of a group also dedicated to kidnapping. Two kidnapped victims were freed after the six had been captured; they were believed to have been held against their will since May.
