Nearly 50 current police officers in Baja California were arrested

The Mexican military detained 48 agents and 7 ex-agents of different police ministries and municipalities in Baja California. General Alfonso Duarte Múgica, commander of the Second Military Zone, explained that the agents were arrested when their superiors summoned them. He gave no detailed explanation on how the ex-agents were arrested.

Without detailing why the agents were take into custody, Alfonso Duarte explained that the arrests would notably contribute to the recuperation effort for increased safety that is currently taking place in Baja California. According to Duarte, the main objective of the operation was to break the protection schemes that crime organizations have in the state.

The agents will be presented today, Thursday, at a military air base in Tijuana where they will then be transported to Mexico City so that they may be imprisoned in a federal institution.
