Municipal mayor-elect kidnapped and killed

11/09/10 – The State Attorney General’s Office of Veracruz (Procuraduría General de Justicia del Estado de Veracruz)   reported that unknown individuals kidnapped and killed a Veracruz municipal mayor-elect.  The killing of Gregorio Barradas and two of his colleagues, his secretary and substitute, occurred this Monday in a restaurant in the neighborhood of Islas. According to the online news source La Crónica de Hoy, a narco-message was left alongside the bodies opening a line of investigation into possible ties the municipal mayor-elect may have had with drug trafficking organizations. However, these ties are neither confirmed nor denied at the moment. The killing of Barradas takes the total number of mayors killed this year to fourteen.
