Member of “La Nueva Familia Michoacana” is Arrested in Tlaxcala

07/15/2024 (written by sley) – Daniel “N”/”La Parka,” also known as “Larry,” has been arrested in the state of Tlaxcala, Mexico. Daniel “N”, an identified member of the criminal organization “La Nueva Familia Michoacana,” was indicted for his alleged involvement in extortion and aggravated homicide. He operated in the eastern part of the State of Mexico, between the regions of Texcoco and Chicoloapan de Juárez. However, in an attempt to evade the authorities, he fled to Tlaxcala, where he was arrested in front of a shopping mall in San Pablo Apetatitlán. Daniel “N” was later transferred to the State of Mexico to be sent to a penitentiary center.

Daniel “N” is accused of shooting and killing a man on January 11, 2021 in Chicoloapan along with two accomplices. He is also accused of  shooting four individuals and injuring two others on February 20, 2021 in the Francisco Villa neighborhood in the same municipality. Finally, Daniel “N” was indicted for his alleged involvement in the extortion of a food business in December 2023. He is accused of demanding derecho de piso (weekly payments) in the municipality of Chicoloapan in exchange for not harming the owner. The state authorities issued a warrant for Daniel “N” arrest in 2024.

According to Sistema Mexiquense de Medios Publicos, Daniel “N” was arrested on June 21, 2024 through a joint operation by the Mexico City District Attorney’s Office, the State Attorney General’s Office, the Secretariat of National Defense, and the federal Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection through the National Anti-Homicide Commission. The Attorney General’s Office said in a statement, “[Daniel “N” ’s] capture was the result of investigations that led to the identification of criminal cells operating in Texcoco and other municipalities in the region, dedicated to the collection of illegal quotas commonly known as ‘derecho de piso’,” (author’s own translation) as reported by Fuerza Informativa Azteca.

Mexico’s Federal Attorney General’s Office (Fiscalía General de Justicia del Estado de México, FGJEM) and other Mexican authorities considered Daniel “N”, a known associate of La Nueva Familia Michoacana, a priority target due to his role as one of the main individuals involved in the surge of violent crimes in the eastern region of the state of Mexico (El Heraldo de México). Additionally, the FGJEM detailed that, “one of the cells operating in the area is the Nueva Familia Michoacana, an organization considered to be contributing to the rise of violence.”

On June 20, 2024, The U.S. Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) sanctioned eight Mexican individuals affiliated with the La Nueva Familia Michoacana drug cartel, prioritizing the targeting of the organization’s assets. The U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen stated, “La Nueva Familia Michoacana traffics cocaine and methamphetamines into the U.S. and smuggles migrants across the southern U.S. border” (Reuters).
