Former mayor of Tampico kidnapped

08/03/10 – The former mayor of Tampico, Fernando Azcárraga López, was kidnapped yesterday by an armed group of individuals while he was exiting a restaurant in Tamaulipas. López, who is also the cousin of Televisa owner, Emilio Azcarraga, was taken around eleven in the morning in the neighborhood of Lomas del Rosal, when the kidnapers forced him into a truck. Last week, in Tamaulipas, a car bomb exploded outside of a Televisa news station in Ciudad Victoria, the governor of Hidalgo, Marco Antonio Leal, was murdered while traveling with his daughter, and 72 immigrants were massacred.
