Early Wednesday morning in Cuernavaca, Morelos, at least five homes were damaged during an attempted kidnapping. The kidnappers entered a home and searched for an unknown individual. When they realized that the person they were looking for was not in the house at the time of the attack, the criminals retreated back into their vehicles and shot at homes and cars nearby as they drove away. Several homes were left in flames. Neighbors reported the crime and attended to the fire after the kidnappers had left.
The shooters used high-caliber, AK-47 rifles during the attack. Fortunately there were no reported injuries or deaths. A neighbor stated that she heard a loud explosion, but there is no evidence that grenades or explosives were used.
Soon after, a narcomessage was found pinned on a nearby pedestrian bridge as a warning. To whom it was directed towards and the contents of the message are unknown. A few hours before the attack, a young man was shot to death in a nearby colony; however, evidence suggests that this event is not linked to either the narcomessage or attack.
