Justice in Mexico

Felipe Calderón asked state governors to create a new police and justice system

08/12/10 – Mexican president Felipe Calderón asked 30 out of the 32 governors from states throughout México to consider the idea of completely reconstructing their police and justice systems in an effort to effectively combat crime organizations.  The notion was brought forth during a forum where 30 governors were present to discuss security in México.

Calderón told the governors that they could count on federal police forces and prosecutors who are very “reliable and effective” meanwhile they focus their efforts on the reorganization effort, even if it means starting “from scratch”.

Among other topics covered, Calderón stated that the public has “every reason” to lose trust in their government because they don’t see in the current efforts the results that they “deserve”.
