Beatriz López Leyva, the ex-director of the PRD in San Pedro Jicayán was killed outside her home around mid-day on Tuesday. In previous years, there have been attempts on Leyva’s life. In 2005, she received a gunshot wound by assumed members of the PRI in that area. She also condemned Mayor Leonardo Silva Palacios for threatening her because of her participation in a protest.
According to eye-witness testimony, a stranger shot her in the head at her home, while her 13 year old daughter was present. Witnesses saw a 26 year old man run away from the property holding a gun.
