“El Flaco”, drug cartel leader for La Familia, captured

12/01/10 – The anti-drug division chief for the Federal Police (Policía Federal – PF), Ramón Eduardo Pequeño, reported that capture of Alfredo Landa Torres, alias El Flaco, the leader of drug cartel operations for La Familia Michoacana in Morelia. Official communications place Landa in charge of administering the finances, corrupting officers, and small scale drug trafficking for the drug cartel organization La Familia.

Landa and three other individuals were arrested in Indeco, Morelia, in possession of firearms. Police also seized more than 25 property deeds and other profitable documents that according to Pequeño were gained as a result of extortion. The Secretariat of Public Security (Secretaría de Seguridad Pública Estatal – SSP)  noted that at the of 17 Landa had been arrested in the U.S. on a drug possession charge and in 2007 he was recruited into La Familia cartel on the recommendation of Servando Gómez, alias La Tuta.
