Eight die in confrontation between Navy and the Zetas

On Monday SEMAR (Secretaría de Marina-Armada), Mexico’s Navy, reported that at least eight presumed narco-trafficking assassins died in a confrontation with naval forces on “La Lagunilla” ranch in the municipal of Bustamante in the state of Nuevo León.  The confrontation took place Sunday evening after members of Mexico’s Navy (Armada de Mexico) detected sixty presumed members of the Zetas, a group of hired assassins working for narco-traffickers, apparently preparing reorganization, stated the Navy.

The gunmen opened fire after the naval air unit arrived, triggering the shooting. Both an aerial and ground operations were mounted against the group of Zetas, who had attempted to flee by foot causing a pursuit and several other confrontations.

SEMAR used one helicopter and several vehicles and secured five vehicles, nine rifles, two handguns, 35 chargers for different weapons, 717 cartridges of different calibers, and various communication devices.
