Activist leader in Oaxaca was shot and killed

08/17/10 – A leader from of the Service Workers Union at the College of Bachelors in the state of Oaxaca was murdered at around 10:00am local time in a town just north of the state’s capital. Tomas Matus Matus was shot four times as he walked down the street. The killer fled the scene before authorities arrived.

A spokesperson for the Matus Matus lamented and condemned the murder. He also demanded authorities undergo an extensive investigation. He described Matus as someone that “was only dedicated to education” and added that the level of insecurity felt in the state is high for residents.
