9 Members of La Familia Michoacana Are Caught

02/21/11 – The Attorney General’s office will be filing charges against 9 members who belong to the drug cartel “La Familia Michoacana.”  The 9 were caught earlier last week in different parts of Tijuana by State Preventative Police officers.  The detainees have been identified as Ramón Eduardo Valenzuela Castillo, Cristian Alejandro Salinas Aguinía, Leonel Orozco Riestra, Julio César Téllez Valencia, José Luis Martínez Zamora, José Guadalupe Martínez Zamora, Enrique Sanabria Téllez, María de los ángeles Mora López and Anabella Mejía Mora.  They have been transported to Mexico City and investigations will continue.

Last week, police began chasing a white Chevrolet Cavalier after it had been sighted speeding and running stop signs.  Police stopped the vehicle and noticed that the three men inside it appeared to be very nervous.  A full search of the car led authorities to find a white substance, known by the street name “ice,” which was later tested to be methamphetamine.  When the three were questioned, they revealed that they worked for a man who goes by the alias “Don Julio” and that the white substance was developed in a secret laboratory of his.  Police forces were able to locate the lab where they then confiscated massive amounts of “ice” and arrested more members.  The detainees collectively had in their possession a number of arms along with 21 gun cartridges, 15 kilos of methamphetamine, 70 liters of toluene, 4 liters of sulfuric acid, 2 kilos of caustic soda (sodium hydroxide), and 250 milliliters of liquid methamphetamine.
